Owning a property on the National Register of historic places is not only a source of pride, it opens doors. Businesses in historic buildings or districts benefit from heritage tourism, and historically listed properties are eligible for a variety of incentives programs. The same is true for properties with state and local designations. And in most cases historical designation does not mean you are subject to burdensome regulations.
